LiDAR applications for railway maintenance (corridor mapping)

Sydney Trains renews his engagement with Hawcs and DIELMO3D for the analysis and maintenance of railway infrastructures in Australia

Year after year, the “tandem” DIELMO3D and Hawcs is in charge of evaluating Sydney Train’s network real situation and maintenance tasks to be carried out using LiDAR.

Year after year, the goal is to detect and report risk areas and to evaluate their maintenance and evolution over the years; as well as to design and set accurate action plans on the network.

2017 – 2014

Thanks to the high quality of the LiDAR data survey done by Hawcs; it is possible to run LiDAR applications for railway maintenance, as detailed analysis of potential risk areas. Once risk parameters and client’s needs are set, DIELMO3D will adapt algorithms and optimize its internal methodology and workflow to obtain exactly the result required.

These end-to-end solutions provide engineering companies with a perfect basis to start evaluating the real situation of their network, as well as to simulate and plan future actions to be taken.

Main products and solutions

  • LiDAR classification of the network and its environment (infrastructures, railway, buildings, forest, etc)
  • Vegetation management and encroachments at different risk levels
  • 2D infrastructure vectorization
  • Tree fall risk analysis
  • Custom & ONLINE reports (see GeoLinks)for risk areas
  • Clearance distances to ground and objects

In addition to cartography generation for risk areas and other results, DIELMO3D provides custom reports. These reports are automatically generated for each span or sensible area. Custom geoportals can also be created for our clients, allowing them to display their entire network, visualize pointclouds on 3D or do measurements or data downloads among others.
